Hyderabad: Former Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Member of Parliament K. Kavitha, the daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, may resume her active role in the party again in view of the up-coming municipal polls.

Ms Kavitha has kept away from party activities and public appearances since her defeat in the Lok Sabha elections. She has appeared in public on just a couple of occasions, one of them being the Mahankali Bonalu festival in Secunderabad.

She has not been seen alongside the Chief Mini-ster in any programme, but her appearance with her father during the family’s visit to Kanchipuram Athi Varadaraja Temple recently, has led to speculation that she will take an active role in the party in the coming days.

Ms Kavitha got involved in the Telangana movement after founding the Telangana Jagruthi, an NGO that promotes Telan-gana culture and arts.

She became active in politics, concentrating on Nizamabad district as her political base. She contested the 2014 elections from Nizamabad.

It came as a surprise when she was defeated in the 2019 elections by the BJP candidate Arvind Dharmapuri, son of D. Sr-inivas, a senior politician and TRS Rajya Sabha member. The talk in political circle was that the differences that cropped up between the followers of Ms Kavitha and Mr Srinivas had resulted in her defeat. With the BJP MP failing to get Turmer-ic Board set up, sources said farmers are now approaching TRS leaders.
