Water released from Thummilla lift irrigation

Jogulamba Gadwal district when irrigation authorities released water from the Thummilla lift irrigation scheme, Phase 1, to Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme (RDS) on Saturday. The scheme is intended to meet the irrigation and drinking water needs of the district. The dream of the people come true with this.


The 5.5 MW pumphouse became operational within less than 12 hours of the successful completion of the much awaited dry run. The commissioning of the lift was cheered by farmers from the ayacut area who gathered at the project in large numbers to participate in the formal puja that preceded the inauguration. The release of water comes as a boon for farmers who are all set to commence their Yasangi operations.


The lift irrigation scheme will restore the tail-end (gap) ayacut of 55,600 acres besides fulfilling the drinking water needs of the villages en route by lifting water from Sunkesula Barrage on Tungabhadra river and pumping it into the RDS canal.
