HYDERABAD : In its bid to come to the rescue of the weavers who are in deep crisis and leading miserable lives, the state government has decided to deposit the subsidy amount given to them for buying yarn and under other welfare schemes directly into their bank accounts in order to eliminate middlemen.

The government has resolved to link the Aadhaar number and the biometric identity of each weaver to his bank account while releasing the subsidy amount. It feels that the benefits of subsidy and welfare schemes will reach the targeted beneficiaries without giving any scope for irregularities if bank accounts of weavers are linked to Aadhaar numbers.

The government has also decided to geo-tag all the hand looms in the state in order to maintain a record of the data of handloom workers in the state.

IT minister KT Rama Rao, who also holds the handlooms and textiles portfolio, has asked officials of the handlooms department to prepare a handloom directory.
